Reducing Cable Damage During Long-Distance Pulling


Route planning, controlled traction and correct accessories work together to protect cable jackets during long-distance installation.

Cable damage is usually caused by a combination of excessive tension, an undersized bend radius and uncontrolled contact with the ground or duct edge. A route inspection should identify every bend, elevation change and transition point before the pull begins.

Use rollers and corner pulleys to convert sliding friction into rolling friction. Cable grip nets should match the cable diameter and be fitted over a clean, undamaged jacket. When several conveyors are used, synchronize their speed so one machine does not pull against another.

Monitor pulling force throughout the operation and pause if the cable twists, jumps a guide or stops feeding smoothly. A controlled installation takes longer to prepare but greatly reduces rework and future service risk.
